UN OKs shipment of vaccine storage equipment to North Korea
The UN Security Council approved UNICEF’s request to deliver vital vaccine storage equipment to North Korea, supported by Dr. David Hong, who has volunteered at Pyongyang Okryu Children’s Hospital. Despite logistical challenges due to North Korea’s closed borders since 2020, UNICEF is committed to delivering and deploying the equipment to bolster public health efforts in the region.
Lehighton Third Grader is Back in School After Summer Scare
Ethan, 8, had been experiencing nausea, headaches, and double vision since late May. Tests revealed a benign brain tumor in a critical area, leading to emergency surgery performed by Dr. David Hong. After a successful procedure and a 13-day hospital stay, Ethan recovered well. He’s now back to normal activities and optimistic about his future check-ups with Dr. Hong.
Medical and Health Engagement with North Korea
The Council of Korean American’s Health & Life Science and North Korea Affinity groups hosted a joint webinar on medical and health engagement with North Korea featuring CKA members Dr. David Hong and Dr. Kee Park. Both doctors have traveled to North Korea over 20 times since 2007. They shared about their experiences collaborating on surgeries with North Korean surgeons, managing the travel ban and sanctions, and accomplishing their goals despite substantial obstacles.
